Jerome Rousseau is making some shoe magic with Disney.
The Canadian footwear designer has collaborated with the entertainment giant on a limited-edition 5-inch platform sandal that will be part of a high-end women’s shoe and accessories collection based on the upcoming Disney 3-D movie “Tron: Legacy.”
Slated to premiere in theaters in December, “Tron” tells the tale of Sam Flynn, a rebellious 27-year-old man who is drawn into a strange digital world where his video-game developer father has been trapped for 20 years. Together, the two face a life-and-death adventure in their quest to escape.
Rousseau’s sandal, which will retail for $795, is inspired by the film’s female heroine, the warrior Quorra, and features a layered design in pewter-colored leather with a metallic coating.
“In keeping with my label’s strengths, I created a style that is distinctive and strong, like the architectural nature of ‘Tron,’ yet anchored in feminine lines and luxurious constructions,” said Rousseau in a statement. He noted that he had been using an original “Tron” poster for inspiration for his own spring ’11 collection even before Disney approached him about the project.
In addition to Rousseau’s design, the Tron collection also includes handbags and leather accessories by Hayden-Harnett and jewelry by both Robin Rotenier and TomTom.
Pam Lifford, EVP of fashion and home for Disney Consumer Products, said the items in the collection are a “natural fit for today’s modern woman, who blends fashion and technology in her daily routine.”
To promote the collection, as well as other merchandise created for the film, Disney plans to open a Tron pop-up shop next month in Los Angeles. Rousseau’s sandal also will be available at select retailers beginning in February.
