Robert Dennis Assumes Chairman Role at Genesco

Robert Dennis, president and CEO of Nashville, Tenn.-based Genesco Inc., will succeed Hal Pennington as chairman effective April 1, the company announced Thursday.

The succession is the final step of the transition plan Genesco — the parent company of Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Underground Station and Johnston & Murphy, among others —implemented in 2005, when Dennis assumed the role of COO. Pennington will remain on the board of directors until June, and will remain employed with Genesco as a consultant to the CEO and the board though March.

“Having worked with Bob Dennis and the rest of the talented and highly motivated management team at Genesco throughout the transition, I have tremendous confidence in the future of the company,” Pennington said in a statement.

“I am honored to follow [Pennington] as chairman of a company for whose current strength he deserves much credit, and I look forward to continuing to draw on his experience and insight in the year ahead,” Dennis said.
