AAFA Preps for Awards

NEW YORK — The American Apparel & Footwear Association is gearing up for the 32nd Annual AAFA American Image Awards.

The charity event is set for May 26 at the Grand Hyatt in New York. Forty percent of the net proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks, which raises money for autism research and awareness.

Bob and Suzanne Wright, the founders of Autism Speaks, will receive this year’s humanitarian award. Steve Madden will receive the Brand of the Year award, while Designer of the Year honors will be presented to John Bartlett.

“I am so honored to be receiving this award,” said Bartlett. “There are so many wonderful companies and individuals being fêted, and it is all going to an incredibly important cause.”

Other award winners include Fern Mallis, SVP of IMG Fashion, who will receive the Fashion Maverick award; Gap Inc., which will be honored with the Retailer of the Year award; and Shopbop.com, which has nabbed E-tailer of the Year.

Li & Fung will receive the Excellence in Global Leadership award.

The group plans to announce a celebrity emcee and presenters in the coming weeks.
