Women’s Buzz: Guillaume Hinfray, Camper and More

Cuff Luck
Milan-based footwear designer Guillaume Hinfray, known for his signature body-piercing design accents, is branching into leather jewelry with a collection of cuffs. The chunky bracelets, available in black, light-brown and cognac-brown, are crafted from supple calf leather and adorned with antique brass buckles. They will be sold exclusively on Guillaumehinfray.com for $98 beginning later this month.

Hot Off the Press
Greenwich, Conn.-based All Black footwear is reinventing its Hot News style for fall. The shoes — crafted from recycled Chinese-language newspapers that are woven into a lattice pattern and dipped in plastic for weather protection and durability — will now come in a patent cap-toe ballet look with black patent trim. The company hopes it will attract a more fashion-forward crowd than its predecessor, which launched for spring ’09. The fall style, available for $110, will appear at select independent retailers.

Faux Sure
New York-based 80/20 is introducing a lower-priced item. Its Ruby boot will sell for $99 at select independent retailers and e-tailers this fall (comparable leather boots from the company sell for $198). The lower price is thanks to the firm’s first venture into synthetic materials. Available in black, chocolate, navy and cognac-brown, the boot is constructed using polyurethane and features a stretch-elastic band at the top of the shaft, for tall or slouched wear.

The New Throwback

New York-based designer Lawrence “XL” Gay is spinning things back to the 1980s with his new footwear line, Xllent Shoes. The China-made collection, inspired by 1980s rock ’n’ roll and hip-hop track suits, is launching for fall ’09 and includes seven styles of zipper-embellished pumps (at left) and mid-calf boots. Gay, who has freelanced for Nine West and Steve Madden, debuted his line during New York Fashion Week in a runway collaboration with clothing designer Richie Rich. The collection is set to retail for $150 to $250 at independent boutiques, including New York-based Shoegasm.

To Hella & Back
Mallorca, Spain-based Camper recently tapped well-known furniture and textile designer Hella Jongerius to create two collections for fall ’10 and summer ’10. Jongerius started with four iconic Camper styles — Pelotas, Peu Cami (at left), Imar and Brothers — and added contrast color patterns, perforated details and elastic laces to update the classic looks. The shoes will retail from $175 to $215 and will be available at select specialty stores and Camper locations.
