Hilfiger’s Hot Spot

Tommy Hilfiger is bowing a four-story, 22,000-sq.-ft. store at 681 Fifth Ave. in New York on Thursday in the former Fortunoff space. The theme of the store is modern-meets-traditional, according to the company, and highlights include a staircase that runs through the length of the store and doubles as a viewing platform for revolving art installations. There are also 1960s Venini chandeliers, Brazilian cherry herringbone floors and countless special services, such as tailoring, shoe shining, complimentary snacks and appearances by celebrity stylists.

Two’s Company

Twin designers Shane and Shawn Ward of Detny and Shane & Shawn are looking for a co-tenant for their 1,200-sq.-ft., Mulberry Street shop. The partner would have to be willing to commit to a term of anywhere from two weeks to six months. “Shane and I have this huge space, and everyone is doing pop-up shops right now. It would be a great idea to bring more buzz to the store,” said Shawn Ward of the Manhattan location. “Ideally, we’d want something in the fashion lifestyle category.”

As part of the deal, potential tenants would have access to a third of the selling space, use of the back room for inventory and signage opportunities in the street windows. Of note, Ward said they are planning to bow several of their own pop-up shops in various cities later this year.

Foot Solutions in Quebec

Foot Solutions opened a new location in Montreal last Tuesday, marking the store’s first location in the province of Quebec. “If you look at the demographics of Montreal, the average age is 45,” said franchisee owner Simon Bitton (above, right). “We had a soft opening [earlier this month] and we had a lot of interest.” The store’s staff is trained to address foot problems and provides each customer with a 40-minute foot analysis to help meet their needs. Top brands include Finn Comfort, Mephisto and Kumfs, said Bitton, and he expects the store to have a successful year. “Eighty-five percent of people wear the wrong size shoes,” he said.

Pop-Up Princess

Rachel Roy bowed a Rachel Rachel Roy pop-up store last Wednesday to tout her diffusion line with Jones Apparel Group. The 1,900-sq.-ft. space on New York’s Spring Street will be open until Sept. 16 and has already hosted special events, including an airbrush tattoo artist and a food sampling with Baked by Melissa goods. The collection, which includes footwear, apparel, handbags and jewelry, can also be purchased on RachelRoy.com, which launched an e-commerce section earlier this month.
