Shop Talk: Aloha, Ugg… Louis B on the Move

Beach Booties
Ugg Australia opened a retail store on Thursday in Honolulu, in the Waikiki district, marking the brand’s fifth store in the U.S. The 1,700-sq.-ft. space sits directly across from the famed Waikiki Beach and includes men’s, women’s and children’s footwear and accessories.
Yes He Can
Chicago native and veteran retailer Peter Hanig of Hanig’s Footwear will delight loyal customers with this news: Hanig’s is expanding once again. The storeowner said a new, 3,800-sq.-ft. shop will open in March or April in the North Clybourn retail area, next to big-box retailers including Apple and Whole Foods. “We’ve been trying to get into this area for a number of years,” said Hanig. “We’re really, really excited about it.”

Trading Spaces
Luxury Boston-based retailer Louis Boston is relocating next year. Owner Debi Greenberg is moving her store to a two-level, 20,000-sq.-ft. custom space at the 3 million-sq.-ft. Fan Pier, a new multiuse waterfront property. New York-based Stella Design is creating the new store, along with Newton, Mass.-based George Schnee Architects. Greenberg promised at a local press conference on Thursday that the space, set to bow in spring 2010, would be modern and warm, with lots of light and waterfront views from within. Other luxury retailers opening in Fan Pier will be announced in the near future.
