Aloha Jil Sander
Aloha Rag unveiled its first shoe collaboration — with none other than Jil Sander — in its New York boutique yesterday. Under the direction of Raf Simmons, Jil Sander designed two exclusive sneaker styles for the store, a low top (for $340) and a high-top (for $415). Just 55 pairs of each style will be available to customers. “The shoes are all white to match the store in celebration of our first anniversary [this month],” said store manager Jeremiah Mandel.
Radians Inc., of Memphis, Tenn., a manufacturer of personal protective gear, has launched a footwear collection with licensing partner Remington Arms Co. The nine-pattern line includes men’s hiking and hunting styles. Available for immediate delivery, the line retails for $50 to $130. Looks range from insulated rubber boots to leather Wellingtons. The collection, initially targeting sporting goods retailers is now being expanded to include shoe stores. Radians currently produces a line of protective gear, such as eyewear and gloves, under the Remington name. Other Radians licensees include DeWalt and Black & Decker.
Bergdorf Goodman customers were able to customize their own men’s shoes March 20-21, when Magnanni artisan Miguel Blanco visited the store to work onsite. More than 50 pairs of custom shoes, starting at $450, were sold by the Spanish brand. Customers were able to choose the color and style of their shoes. The total process, completed in the Magnanni factory, takes many hours, but some lucky customers walked away with shoes that weekend. “This event was a tremendous success because customers are looking for items that are truly exceptional,” Pascual Blanco from Magnanni, said in a statement.
