Comfort Buzz: Wolky Goes Green… Ausiie Hits…

Green Market
Wolky, based in Tempe, Ariz., is taking an environmental stand with the fall ’09 launch of its Font collection of chrome-free leather footwear for women. Enhancing the comfort factor of the five styles are natural latex outsoles and removable footbeds that are both cushioned and leather lined. The collection, which will retail from $230 for shoes to $300 for boots, is slated for September delivery.

Counting Sheep
Sheepskin lovers have a new brand to cozy up to: Ausiie Boots Australia, based in Chatsworth, Calif. Created by husband-and-wife team Ivan and Melissa Tampi, the fashion-forward women’s and girls’ looks feature edgy animal and snakeskin prints, as well as decorative embroidery. Set to retail for $190 to $400 for women’s and $140 for kids’ styles, the boots will deliver in August.

Softer Side
Portuguese brand Softinos, distributed by Burlington, Ontario-based Bos. & Co., is making its U.S. debut this fall. The line consists of women’s casuals (below), dress casuals featuring soft nappa and suede uppers. Leather-lined cushioned footbeds and flexible latex bottoms help to soften each step. Delivering in September, Softinos will retail from $120 to $190.

Code Word
The wellness wave rolls on with the fall ’09 launch of Z7 by New England Footwear. According to the Portsmouth, N.H.-based company, the Z in the brand’s name signifies the 26 bones in the foot (Z is the 26th letter in the alphabet); the number 7 refers to the number of major muscle groups engaged when a step is taken.

One comfort technology featured in the collection is Z7 Cradle, a platform that creates a subtle rocking motion. Its benefits include increased calorie burning, better muscle tone and an improved sense of balance over time, according to company data. Other comfort features include PreciseFit footbeds that incorporate interchangeable inserts at the forepart that can be adjusted for narrow, medium and wide widths. In addition, AirEeze, a proprietary ventilation system that circulates air around the foot, ensures temperature control. For comfort underfoot, a glass-infused TPR cradle is encapsulated in a polyurethane midsole. Available for men and women, the collection of casuals (above), dress casuals and boots retails from $155 to $265. Delivery is slated for September.
