Buzz: Adidas, MBT And More

Adidas Animated
Sport brand Adidas and Disney Consumer Products are joining forces for an extensive line of infant and children’s wear, including shoes. The new spring/summer collection for boys and girls combines Adidas’ traditional performance silhouettes with Disney’s classic characters, such as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The Disney StreetRun trainer will incorporate 3D elements and a Disney-themed Adidas shoe sole stamp into the sneaker design. Footwear for infants and children ranges from 35 to 55 euros, respectively. The line is set to hit Adidas stores and select athletic retailers this month. A collaboration featuring characters from the upcoming movie “Toy Story 3” is also in the works to coincide with the film’s summer release.

Sneaker Culture
There’s a new boy on the footwear block this spring, with the introduction of 1999. Launched under the ZigiNY umbrella, a trend-driven women’s brand based in Huntington, N.Y., 1999 focuses on fashion sneakers targeting a 20- to 30-something crowd. Designed by Jannie Denney, the line was inspired by international street art, music and culture. “The line reflects a clean, relaxed, comfortable attitude and a sense of humor,” Denney said. The new offering will hit stores in January.

Rock On
Rocker-bottom brand MBT is getting athletic for spring with a new collection of sneaker-inspired styles that marry a lower-profile bottom unit with updated uppers. The four silhouettes in the Athletic collection — the women’s Fora and Mary Jane-like Baridi and the men’s Kimondo and Sini — are 20 percent lighter than traditional MBT styles, use a 3-D mesh upper that promotes breathability, and are targeted for recovery and conditioning use. The Athletic collection will retail for $215 to $235 at comfort independents and select department stores.
After Sport
Rider Sandals, a division of Brazilian sandal brand Grendene, is continuing to grow its after-sport, after-running business with the new Omni style for men, launching this spring. The all-weather closed-up style features a breathable mesh upper with a crossband closure that allows for adjustment, a rubber outsole for traction and heel and toe guards for added protection, as well as a removable EVA insole. The $45 style is delivering now to independent, athletic and running-focused accounts.
