Brown Shoe Revives Zodiac USA

St. Louis-based Brown Shoe Co. announced today that it will revive the Zodiac USA brand for fall ’09 and has tapped Hialeah, Fla.-based Dolphin Footwear Co. as a manufacturing, design and distribution partner. A new women’s fall collection, featuring flat fringe boots and moccasins, will kick off the comeback with a nod to the brand’s heritage styling.

Developed by Encore Shoe Corp. in the late 1970s, the brand gained popularity in the 1980s for its fringe boots and Western American styles as well as low-profile athletics.

“Consumers throughout the U.S. and Europe are gravitating towards vintage Americana looks, creating the right environment for the return of Zodiac USA,” said Gary Rich, president of Brown Shoe wholesale, in a statement.

Ranging from $69 to $149, a small capsule collection hit Nordstrom for fall ’08. Fall ’09 will reveal an expanded lifestyle collection, which will debut at WSA next month and will be available at Nordstrom as well as independent retailers.
