Toms Launches First U.S. Shoe Drop

NEW YORK — Toms Shoes announced its first U.S. shoe drop, which began yesterday in Gulfport, Miss., and will finish on Oct. 24.

Blake Mycoskie, chief shoe giver and founder of Toms, said he and his team of volunteers plan to visit roughly 3,000 elementary school students in three Mississippi school districts that have been affected by the recent hurricanes.

Having donated more than 10,000 pairs of shoes in Argentina and 50,000 in South Africa through shoe drops, the Gulfport trip is part of the organization’s commitment to distribute 300,000 additional pairs of shoes in the next 12 months.

Toms’ philanthropic initiative operates through a “one for one” program, in which it donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased from the brand.
