The Shoes Literally Matched the Clothes at Giambattista Valli

For spring ’17, Giambattista Valli had a delightfully pretty proposition at Paris Fashion Week: to extend the same fabric of gowns and party frocks right down to shoes.
If a chiffon dress came microfrilled, then so did matching pumps and bootines. Ditto for lacy looks. It seems that Valli’s woman, who tends to skew a little more toward swans in training than fully formed madames, is clearly ready to put a little more polish in her step.

And after a few season of relying on black, skinny, strappy heels to punctuate and add a youthful swerve to evening dressing, the designer simplified his graphic suede cutout sandals. Even for this high-impact maximalist, sometimes less is more.
