The mood: Goth goes uptown, in more ways than one. From the setting of St. Bartholomew’s to the punked-up Park Avenue Princesses on the runway, it was as if Alexander Wang has reimagined his own lineup of cooler-than-you Gossip Girls.
The soundtrack: Nicki Minaj, Drake and Meek Mill. Wang and hip-hop go hand in hand.
The front row: Zoe Kravitz, Beth Ditto, Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Taraji P Henson and Solange Knowles.
The shoes: Gussied up combat boots with cap-toe embellishment, silver hardware-laden scrunched slingbacks, creeper-soled wallabes and chunky high-top sneakers.
The review: After a lacklustre stint at Balenciaga, Wang got his groove back. This was his strongest, most relevant collection in years, filled to the brim with street-wise remixes on the skirt suit. The longtime downtown darling was clearly well-served by his time in Paris. This was evident in his tweed fantastic tailoring, but the stomp-able shoes were pure New York.
