The Brazilian brand, which last year was named the official flip-flops of Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, has expanded the partnership to help celebrate the launch of Disney’s upcoming film “Moana.”
In addition to creating a special series of “Moana” flip-flops featuring characters from the animated movie, Havaianas will also serve as a sponsor of the world premiere in Hollywood on Nov. 14, where it will have a presence on the red carpet and at a special premiere party.
Of the partnership (which is a first for the brand), Havaianas USA President Marcio Moura said in a statement, “The opportunity is a natural fit, not only because of our existing Disney Alliance partnership, but also because the vibrant and tropical setting of ‘Moana’ is synonymous with the spirit of Havaianas.”
“Moana” is slated to premiere in U.S. theaters on Nov. 23. The animated film follows the adventures of a spirited Polynesian girl who sets sail in search of a fabled land, with characters voiced by stars like Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Scherzinger and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho in the title role. Original songs were co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creative mind beyond the Broadway hit “Hamilton.”
Havaianas’ “Moana” flip-flops are available now for purchase, for $20 each, on the brand’s U.S. e-commerce site.
