Baby Shoe Brand Freshly Picked Launches Online Community to Promote Small Businesses

Entrepreneur Susan Petersen started her baby shoe brand, Freshly Picked, from her kitchen table in 2009. Today, her Utah-based company, known for its colorful fringed leather moccasins, has grown into a multimillion-dollar global business with a celebrity following that includes Kim Kardashian, Mila Kunis and Michael Phelps.

Now, Petersen is looking to pay her success forward with the launch of Freshly Picked’s Marketplace, an online community of hand-selected small businesses specializing in unique baby products. Consumers can learn about each different product and its creator’s story and purchase the products via Freshly Picked’s website. The idea, according to Petersen, is to give much-deserved exposure and publicity to these up-and-coming companies.

“As new baby product innovators have emerged and tried to gain exposure for their awesome products, I’ve thought, ‘I’ve been there before.’ I found myself wishing I had a megaphone to share each of their stories and products in a way that didn’t distract from our focus at Freshly Picked. [That’s how] my team and I came up with the idea for Marketplace,” she explained.

The first group of brands featured in the Marketplace includes Koko’s Nest (knit blankets), Hazel Village (soft toys), Sproutling & Co. (contemporary, handcrafted mobiles), Bannor Toys (wooden toys) and The Posh Society (hair bows made with Freshly Picked leathers).

“The Marketplace community is truly the best of the best — [companies that have been] hand-picked and tested by the Freshly Picked team,” Petersen noted. “I’m excited to introduce moms and dads to each of these wonderful brands and to continue to add to the community moving forward.”
