The first gold medal awarded at the 2016 Olympic Games has gone to American rifle shooter Ginny Thrasher.
The 19-year-old’s 208 score set a record in the women’s 10-meter air rifle competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday, besting China’s silver medalist Du Li and bronze medalist Yi Siling.

Wearing a pair of neon green Nike sneakers, the West Virginia University sophomore stood at the center podium and accepted her gold medal while the National Anthem played.
