The sportswear chain kicked off the Houston Texans star’s JJ I Preseason Training shoe drop on Friday by showcasing the footwear around an ice sculpture at one of its stores. More fanfare is in store with four events scheduled in the football team’s state throughout August.
The Reebok JJ I Mobile Try-On Tour will land in four cities beginning Tuesday, and on Aug. 11-12 and Aug. 19, featuring a mini combine inspired by the athlete, chances to win prizes and an opportunity to try on the kicks, according to the retail chain’s website, which will be helpful to female customers seeking the right fit.
Shoe sizes come in every half size from 3.5-14, available for men and boys, but the brand has also posted a size-conversion chart for women.
The sneakers in the Watt collection are available in the original white colorway, which debuted last month and quickly sold out, plus a new colorway, navy blue.
The footwear is available via Reebok.com, at Academy stores and other select retailers for $99.98.
The Preseason Training sneaker drop on Aug. 5 was great timing for Watt’s fans in Texas — the state had a tax-free weekend on apparel, footwear and school supplies under $100 through Sunday, Aug. 7. State officials estimated that the temporary lift on sales tax will save consumers $92 million.
Throughout the month of August, several other states will waive sales taxes on everyday-use footwear (not cleats or comparable specialized shoes enhanced for sports) in support of back-to-school shopping, including Connecticut (Aug. 21-27; items under $100) and Maryland (Aug. 14-20; items under $100).
