The competition was designed to discover and develop aspiring sneaker designers from around the world, and this year it will be conducted completely online from Feb. 5 through March 13.
There will be a weeklong World Sneaker Championship Experience live exhibition for the sneaker community in New York.
“The World Sneaker Championship is one of Pensole’s most popular competitions,” said D’Wayne Edwards, Pensole founder. “This year we’re expanding it both in length and in reach, with multiple points of interactivity between designers and industry influencers.”
The WSC is run tournament-style, and on March 13 the 64 best sneaker designs will be announced on Worldsneakerchampionship.com. There will then be online voting every week until the top two designs are chosen on April 17.
On May 9, 3-D renderings of the two designs will be revealed and will then be developed in the following months until November 2016. The winner will not only receive $20,016 but their design will be sold in select Foot Locker locations.
