Team USA women’s soccer star Alex Morgan is no longer competing in Rio after a shocking loss to Sweden in the Olympic quarterfinals, but that isn’t stopping Nike from releasing a laceless training shoe for women inspired by its decorated sponsored athlete.
The Nike Free Connect LTD arrives on Thursday and will retail for $125. The shoe will be available via nike.com starting at 10 a.m. ET.
The shoe features elements that celebrate Morgan and her legendary soccer career, including a horseshoe on the insole (Morgan’s teammates nicknamed her “Baby Horse”), three stars (one for each USWNT World Cup win) and the team’s logo with the number 100 near the heel (for her more than 100 games played for the team).
The slip-on shoe features a white, pink blast, wolf gray and pure platinum color palette, with white comprising most of the upper. The most profound element of the shoe’s upper is a bold pink strap, which Nike said is inspired by Morgan’s signature pink headband that she wears for her mother-in-law, who had breast cancer. The shoe is completed with a white outsole with pink highlights.
The shoe — which Nike describes as ideal for cardio, group fitness and circuits — features an engineered one-piece mesh upper for breathable flexibility, a tri-star outsole pattern for natural comfort, and a foam midsole that doubles as an outsole for lightweight comfort.
