The NBA Fit App, which launched on Wednesday and is available for download on the App Store and Google Play, delivers a social health and fitness experience for basketball fans through mobile platforms.
It is the only fitness app that includes training videos from NBA and WNBA talent, including strength and conditioning coaches.
Users will engage with content that focuses on three core goals inspired by the game of basketball and the wellness lifestyle associated with its athletes: being active, eating healthy and group interaction.
Kicking off with an NBA Finals 2016 challenge, one of the app’s activities encourages users to log a basketball workout every day through June 19, along with a component to match or exceed the record for 3-point shots made in a single NBA Finals game for the chance to win two tickets to the NBA Draft.
The program allows the NBA to tap into the vast resources of the UA Record from Under Armour’s Connected Fitness network, featuring more than 170 million members across several exercise and wellness online communities.
“We continually look for ways to connect with our fans and encourage healthy, active lifestyles,” NBA senior vice president of social responsibility Todd Jacobson said in a statement.
“Through this partnership,” he continued, “we are able to combine Under Armour’s connected fitness expertise with the league’s fitness knowledge to create an experience that inspires people to be active, eat healthy and play together.”
Under Armour’s vice president of global sports marketing Peter Murray said the collaboration between the brands highlights a “shared commitment to making all athletes better through the power of social health and fitness experiences.”
“We are committed to continuing our work together in fostering the worldwide growth of basketball and inspiring a community of users through various challenges, training tips and exclusive content,” Murray added.
