Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard may be a fan favorite where he plays in Portland, but on Monday night, the NBA superstar made some time for his fans in New York City.
The Adidas-sponsored guard, along with TV personality and radio host Sway Calloway, visited Foot Locker’s 34th Street location for a meet-and-greet. During the event, Lillard did a Q&A with Calloway, addressing several topics including music and, of course, basketball. The baller also gave away more than 200 pairs of his latest signature shoe, the Adidas D Lillard 2, to those in attendance.
Lillard and the Trail Blazers are in town to face Jordan Brand-sponsored Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks tonight at 7:30. The star baller is also no stranger to working with Foot Locker, as he appeared in an ad alongside Minnesota Timberwolves guard Andrew Wiggins and late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel last year.
The latest iteration of the D Lillard 2 to hit stores, dubbed “Static,” hit stores on Saturday and came with a $105 price tag. The shoe was inspired by his message dismissing the detractors that are vocal about doubting his game.
It’s tough to find flaws in Lillard’s play on the court. The 25-year-old guard from Oakland, Calif., is averaging 25.4 points and seven assists per game this season, leading his surprisingly hot Trail Blazers squad to a 32-28 record, currently sitting in the Western Conference’s seventh spot in the playoff race.
