Ugg took the spotlight at the 31st Santa Barbara International Film Festival, when the company presented actor Johnny Depp with the Maltin Modern Masters award for his achievements in film. The award is the highest honor given during the event, taking place at the city’s historic Arlington theatre and running through Feb. 13.
Depp received the award for his commitment to diverse roles including the now iconic “Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of The Black Pearl”; “Chocolat,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and “Black Mass.”
“It is a pleasure to once again join our friends at the SBIFF, in our hometown of Santa Barbara, to honor one of the most accomplished film professionals of all time,” said Nicks Ericsson, Ugg director of marketing for the women’s division. “Mr. Depp’s ability to inspire us all through his work is what makes him the perfect recipient for this year’s top honor.”
Ericsson went on to add, “Originally founded in 1978 on the shores of southern California, we continue to draw inspiration from our relaxed, California casual lifestyle. The spirit of SBIFF is the perfect backdrop for us to celebrate our roots with our community near and far.”
Past recipients of the award, renamed in 2015 for longtime festival moderator and film critic Leonard Maltin, include Michael Keaton, Bruce Dern, Ben Affleck, Christopher Plummer.
