17 Shoes for the Trailblazing #GirlBoss

Friday marks the debut of Amazon latest original series, “Good Girls Revolt.” The drama follows women in the 1960s working as researchers at “News of the Week” magazine, where they decide to fight for equal treatment in their workplace, ruffling more than a few feathers along the way.

Today, as women continue to gain ground in the business world, stiff dress codes are beginning to fall away in some cases. Here, we offer some alternatives to typical women’s workplace footwear — think modern updates to the classic Mary Jane, flats with a bit of flair and heels in luxe materials.

For those who love a good flat, whether it’s a pointed-toe pair, oxfords or loafers, there are plenty of unique options. Need a pair of black flats but want a little extra detail? Stella Luna’s black suede version with gold hardware should do the trick. For funkier options, Proenza Schouler has you covered with its white grommet laceups, while Fendi’s black loafers with studs and a bit of pink shearling add character to an everyday look.

If you’re a fan of a classic Mary Jane, try Dolce & Gabbana’s velvet embellished pair or Marni’s wood-heeled style.

If these are too out there for your workplace, Chloé and Alexander Wang make low-heeled pumps with just a slight bit of fun detail.
