Ah, summer — the time for the finer things in life: swimming, barbecues, patio lounging. And now that your spring wardrobe is in full rotation, it’s time to up your shoe game, too. Below, we highlight five essential styles that will get you through summer (and leave you looking super chic, to boot).

Slides
The slide is a summer essential for its slip-on-and-go ease. We picture it poolside or by the beach. Look for new updates such as metal embellishment, pastel suedes and fur uppers (the latter perhaps best enjoyed on a cool day).

Flatforms
Summer isn’t all about lazy beach days. If you’re enjoying a nice city stroll, flatform sandals will give you a sleek fashion edge. Opt for high-impact finishes such as studding, clog soles or graphic striping.

Loafers
While we’re all about the open-toe message, you’ll need a closed-toe shoe for running those important errands (like grabbing sangria ingredients, for instance). Say yes to colored suedes and pointy silhouettes.

Block Heels
The only thing better than summer? Summer nights. A chic option for a patio party or late dinner is the block heel sandal. This style can be dressed down in bright colors or up with refined appliqués.

Espadrilles
If you’re a sneaker gal, the espadrille is a perfect update for the warmer temps. They can be ladylike with a wrap-tied silhouette or more grungy in a dark leopard print.
