The Mood: Old time glamour at the Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room, complete with live band and hors d’oeuvres. Models stood on a rotating pedestal wearing tiered chiffon dresses, blush topcoats and blouses with oversized bows.
The Shoes: Glitzy pumps prevailed. Pointy-toe slingbacks were embellished with floral appliqués or glitter. Patent rounded-toe pumps had two ankle straps — not quite a Mary Jane, but reminiscent of the collection’s retro focus. The more feminine styles were juxtaposed against mensy pointy flats. Leather ankle boots had a floral print, meanwhile, and block-heel pumps had embellished crystal lips.
The Review: Cutesy accessories have become Kate Spade’s schtick and this season was no different. Still, there were attempts at creating a more streamlined, less flashy collection here. Styles like a saturated pink pointy pump, in a rich suede, struck the difference between minimal and showy.
