MY GENERATION: An instigator in the “It” bag craze of yore with its Baguette, Fendi keeps moving further in “My” bag territory, inviting its elite customers to personalize their Peekaboos.

To wit: Senior designers from the Rome studio of Silvia Venturini Fendi descended on Fendi’s Paris flagship on Thursday night to showcase its made-to-order service, which allows clients to select from a range of exotic skins and metal hardware options. Bags, designed in collaboration with the client, are realized in Fendi’s Italian workshops and delivered in three to six months.

For the Paris event, Fendi imported a master craftsman, who sat at a table near the entrance of the Avenue Montaigne boutique and sewed a medium-sized Peekaboo in Selleria leather. He noted it would take one person three to four days to make such a bag, though workers typically devote themselves to one step in the production process, and then rotate them.

On Thursday, Fendi also presented its made-to-order service for “travel furs,” which will become a permanent feature of the Montaigne store. Clients can choose from a variety of colors and accouterments for the versatile styles, many of them reversible to leather and with zip-off panels.
