Alexander Wang’s grunge-inspired looks continue into fall. The designer’s latest collection includes heavy-metal embellishments — a tie-in to his runway shoes — as well as high-top sneakers and ankle boots with cutout heels.
Though Wang’s customer has always been more downtown than uptown, the two aesthetics have fused in his most recent offerings. Pastel ankle-strap pumps in pinks and blues were rendered less feminine with allover silver studding as were his leather babouche mules, which look especially cool.
Flatform Wallabee-inspired silhouettes were done in tan suede, a style that feels new for the fall season. Stretch suede boots with a cap toe also felt unexpected.
Chunky rubber soles were added to high-top sneakers that had contrast stitching, and Wang’s espadrilles returned in a new fall palette.
Styles that didn’t work included metallic copper pumps, which felt dated. His cutout-heel boots felt tired as well — though they continue to be a best-seller.
