British footwear-and-accessories designer Sophia Webster has teamed up with the British Fashion Council to design a limited-edition tote for London Fashion Weekend, the four-day consumer-facing event that takes place this year from Sept. 22-26, at London’s Saatchi Gallery.
Webster, who received this year’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund prize, has translated her flair for bright color and print to the canvas bag, which features a peacock motif — the same one that inspired the designer’s upcoming spring ’17 collection.
“Sophia’s beautiful designs capture British creativity and are the perfect match for London Fashion Weekend. I look forward to seeing them used all over London and farther afield,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive officer of the British Fashion Council.
The totes will be given to consumers who purchase Silver, Gold or Luxe packages for the event, which will take place after the spring ’17 shows in London. London Fashion Weekend also features industry talks, catwalk shows and access to curated shopping galleries.
Webster is set to take part in the event’s first industry talk, on Sept. 22. French Sole, Linda Farrow, Lucy Choi and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi are the oher participating designers.
Earlier this year, Webster launched her first full collection of handbags featuring the same surreal aesthetic seen in her shoe designs. It includes cross-body bags with flamingo-shaped hardware and box clutches embellished with multicolor crystals shaped into coral reefs.
“I always knew that I wanted to be known for my bags as much as my shoes,” Webster told FN before the launch. “In the beginning, it was basically just me, so I decided to focus on shoes. Now that I have a team in place, I can make sure that the line is produced properly.”
Last March, Webster opened her first standalone boutique on Mount Street in London’s Mayfair neighborhood, to extend her established e-commerce business, enhance the customer experience and provide synergy when it comes to stock.
