According to Google’s Frightgeist trend tracking website, the top trending costume in the nation is Margot Robbie’s character in the summer action film “Suicide Squad.”
Her unhinged portrayal of the psychotic, bat-wielding villain was such a hit with moviegoers that a spinoff flick by Warner Bros. Studios is in the works.
The costume will likely be an easy do-it-yourself look for fans to pull together: a distressed top and bomber jacket, fishnet stockings and short shorts. But Harley Quinn’s striking footwear — the highlight of the ensemble — will be challenging to get.
The character’s killer high-top heels seen in the film from Jeremy Scott’s 2014 collaboration with Adidas are no longer for sale. The shoes feature a 130mm heel, lace-up silhouette and the signature Adidas stripes.
Still, there are some stylish costume heels designed in a similar style that are available on eBay and Etsy for sale, including a customized pair for $67.88 online.
Coming in as Google’s second-most popular search is the Joker, Harley Quinn’s love interest in “Suicide Squad” and a perfect answer to couples seeking costumes that complement each other. In many scenes, the character dons a pair of dark oxfords teamed with a colorful suit.
Google’s national data showed that comic book characters have so far made up 16 percent of all costume searches this year.
Here is a list of the Top 10 trending Google costume searches nationally for 2016.
1. Harley Quinn
2. The Joker
5. Wonder Woman
