Industry veteran John Charles Basile passed away on Feb. 26. He was 64 years old.

Basile held a range of positions during his career that included sales at Bakers Shoes in New York. He moved on to brands such as Bellini, Cougar and LJ Simone before landing a job at Steven Madden Ltd., where he worked from 1994 to 2000. After leaving Madden, he continued his association with the company as an agent for its overseas business.

“John was a charismatic businessman,” said Steve Madden, referring to Basile’s roles in product and sales for the company. “Due to his vigor and enthusiasm, a thousand times over we at Steve Madden wouldn’t be where we are without him.”

Basile is survived by his sister, three sons and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on March 5 from 3-7 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich, Conn.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart and Stroke Association at honor.americanheart.org.
