SG Companies, a 120-year-old footwear and apparel manufacturer, is staking a bigger claim in the New York market with a new, expanded showroom. The company has signed a long-term lease at 142 West 36th St., for a 5,000-sq.-ft. space.

“With our operating divisions targeting all retail segments, the move to a larger showroom provides the proper venue for continued growth,” said Bernard Leifer, CEO and president of SG Companies. “The expanded space will allow for dedicated showrooms for our four divisions and accommodate multiple meetings for our apparel and footwear collections.”

SG Companies is comprised of SG Footwear, SGI Apparel Group, SG Messer Group and Rugged Shark. It offers licensed products and private-label programs servicing all tiers of distribution. The company produces footwear across a wide range of categories, including slippers, sandals, athletics, flip-flops and children’s styles.

SG Footwear and SG Messer are licensed by brands including Dockers, Izod, Perry Ellis, Chinese Laundry, Signature and Denizen by Levi Strauss & Co., Panama Jack and the Minions franchise, among others.

The company was founded as a domestic manufacturer in Hackensack, N.J., changing its corporate name to SG Footwear in 2002. SG Companies was recently formed as the parent to SG Footwear, SG Messer Group, SGI Apparel Group and Rugged Shark.
