Newman said that since most designers look to Europe for ideas, he decided to head to South America instead, where he spotted styles made by a local manufacturer, sparking the élé Insiders concept.
The fun, colorful women’s looks are cozy and durable, so they’re appropriate for both indoor and outdoor wear, from entertaining dinner guests to heading out to class or to Starbucks. They also make a perfect travel shoe, to be worn on a plane or in hotel rooms.
The uppers are made of soft fabric, while the textured outsoles are rubber. Enhancing their comfort is a memory-foam footbed. And all styles are machine-washable.
Included in the debut collection are the Milonga, a cuffed boot; the Salsa, a Mary Jane style; and Zamba, a moccasin, all mirroring trends in the mainstream footwear market. The line comes in sizes small through extra-large and retails from $48 to $56. It’s available now on eleinsiders.com and Thegrommet.com.
Newman hopes to eventually move into the men’s and kids’ markets with companion looks.
