Outdoor lifestyle brand Keen, is on a mission to help preserve the nation’s natural treasures. Starting on July 29, a bright yellow, renovated 70s RV will hit the road for a two-month cross-country trip with a duo of goals: raising awareness for preserving public lands and celebrating the places people play.
As part of its Live Monumental campaign to garner support for the protection of places enjoyed by millions , Keen is aiming to collect over 100,000 signatures on a petition on livemonumental.com to support the designation of new national monuments. Plans are to then deliver the signatures to the Obama administration in Washington in September on a giant scroll.
The campaign is lobbying for the designation of new national monuments to include the Mojave Desert in California; Owyhee Canyonlands in Oregon; Birthplace of Rivers in West Virginia’ Boulder-White Clouds in Idaho and Gold Butte in Nevada.
The RV will begin its journey in Keen’s hometown of Portland, Ore., making its way down the West coast, then across the Rockies, through the Midwest, on to the Southeast and lastly, Washington. It will stop in towns along the way to gather public support and signatures.
Those interested in experiencing the road trip virtually can log on to live monumental.com. The site also allows supporters to add their signatures to the petition. Supporters are also asked to help spread the word about the campaign through social media by tagging posts with #LiveMonumental.com
“There are nearly three acres of public land for each person in the U.S.,” said Linda Balfour, brand marketing director for Keen. “Through the Live Monumental summer road trip and digital campaign, we will bring the Keen brand promise of building stronger communities and a healthier planet to live by advocating for new national monument designations to preserve some of those lands for their recreation and conservation value.”
