After its scavenger hunt for the first Adidas Vanguard collection in September, New York-based retailer Extra Butter has teamed with the brand for the release of its second installation. The second Vanguard collection features the brand’s iconic Rod Laver and Stan Smith silhouettes.
The Rod Laver silhouette, named The Scholar, evokes the spirit of academia with a whiff of private-school uniform. The shoe features gold embroidery, red-striped foxing and two metallic crest pins (merits in “Punctuality” and “Perfect Attendance”). The upper is navy blue, and the combination of red foxing and white midsole represents a collegiate red pen and Whiteout. The shoe is completed with a classic gum sole.
The Stan Smith entry, named The Wunderkind for the collection, is an ode to the child prodigy, according to the retailer. The shoe features a camel-colored wool textured upper, with luxurious black leather on the heel and Stan Smith branding, plus flat brass eyelets. The shoe also features a luxe leather lining (which is visible on the interior collar in a tennis heritage palette of navy, white, and red) and a multi-patterned insole.
Both the Rod Laver Scholar and the Stan Smith Wunderkind have retail prices of $100. The shoes will be available on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Extra Butter’s NYC store, located at 125 Orchard Street, and on Wednesday at 12 p.m. on the retailer’s website.
The first Vanguard collection featured Adidas’ ZX Flux and ZX Trail Mid silhouettes, retailing for $130 and $140, respectively. The ZX Flux Chief Diver was inspired by nautical seascapes and the life that inhabits them and featured a rare-species-printed neoprene upper with glow-in-the-dark accents. The ZX Trail Mid Scout Leader was influenced by survival enthusiasts and campgrounds and featured a duck canvas and nappy suede upper with embroidered patches.
