Fashion designer Katharine Polk is this year’s winner of the Caleres Emerging Designer Award, taking home $25,000 to further build her line.

St. Louis-based Caleres teamed up with the Saint Louis Fashion Fund at the start of the city’s fashion week to honor Polk and her line, Houghton.

Polk was one of four young designers to present her collection at St. Louis Fashion Week in the competition to win the funding. Haus Alkire, Eckhaus Latta, Azede Jean-Pierre and NOVIS also competed.

Fern Mallis of New York Fashion Week; Lisa Perry, Barneys senior fashion director; Tomoko Ogura, CEO of Hildun Corp.; Interluxe Chairman Gary Wassner; LaForce + Stevens co-founder James LaForce; and Debra Bass, fashion editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, were on hand to judge the collections.

Polk will now received mentoring from industry experts, and she will produce one look from her collection benefitting the St. Louis Fashion Fund.

The Houghton line debuted in February 2012, and Polk debuted her bridal line, Houghton Bride, in October 2012. She produces her lines in New York City.
