Tom Ford Launches Exclusively On Net-a-Porter

Let them buy shoes. Tom Ford has officially launched his first e-commerce partnership scaling all categories on Net-a-Porter.com today. And soon, he will do the same with Mr.Porter.com

This marks the first time the luxury ready-to-wear men’s and womenswear label will be sold on a globally available digital platform as a complete collection, from apparel to handbags, eyewear and of course footwear. Separately, the brand operates its own e-boutique with shipping restricted to continental North America.

The London-based online retailer’s 9 million-strong customer base can currently shop the women’s pre-fall ’15 footwear assortment, which opens at $890 for metal-heeled suede pumps to $2390 for calf leather boots.

We caught up with Ida Petersson, senior footwear buyer at Net-a-Porter.com, to hear more about Ford’s singular shoes.

How did you decide on which styles to buy into this season?

It was really difficult as this was a very strong collection. We bought a little bit wider than we normally do for a first launch. We bought heavily into the padlock pumps and sandals, which have become his signatures.

How has his footwear collection developed?

He’s come such a long way, especially on shoes I think. The first collection was quite tight and small. I’ve started to see so much research and real investment into the footwear side of the brand. He also worked on the comfort of the shoes as well, which you can really spot now and feel how well they are fitted.

What do you think sets the footwear apart?

He has such an amazing attention to detail. He’s really know for super high heels. I’m lucky that I’m sample size and try everything on so I can see and feel the impeccable construction.

What styles do you predict you’ll have the most success with?

I was drawn to the block heel boots, which we also picked up in a fringe and patchwork version. I can’t wait to have them up on the site. And also he is doing some brilliant sneakers and high-tops. We will definitely do well with the pumps and sandals. We have a very editorial customer, maybe more so than any other account, so we see success with true runway styles as well. We always invest in those true show pieces.

What is it about Tom Ford that you think will resonate with your customers?

He’s such a woman’s man. The thing that I love about him is he surrounds himself with interesting women of all ages from different parts of the world – role models, really. It’s reflected in the timeless appeal of his work. You can truly wear it any season. There are not many designers who can do that. Alaïa is another but it’s rare.
