For the line, Zapata replicated his well-known works onto the canvas of classic Superga sneakers. The collection includes 11 styles for women, men and kids that were inspired by his original paintings, some of which include Panda Matrix, Mixed Media and Wonder Flowers, Acrylic on Canvas 2013.
“Domingo Zapata is the most exciting artist in America today. I’m a huge collector of his work, and I have several of his pieces in my home. I’m honored to work with him,” said Steve Madden, founder and design chief of his eponymous firm.
The collection is priced from $80 to $160 and will be available at the Superga store in New York and through Superga-USA.com.
The partnership marks the latest project for the Italian luxe sneaker brand. This spring, it launched Rodarte x Superga, a collaboration with high-end women’s ready-to-wear label Rodarte.
Rodarte’s founders and designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy reimagined Superga’s classic low and high-top styles in novelty material mixes that include denim with a net overlay and styles featuring contrasting tongues in snake prints and embossed leathers.
Last year, the company joined forces with Suki Waterhouse for a special collection.
