Resort 2016: Shoe Highlights From Week 1

With resort ’16 market previews in full swing, the wide array of new footwear styles can be overwhelming. From outlandish designs to to those with classic appeal, we’ve highlighted all of the top shoe moments from the first week — including the styles you need to know about.

To no one’s surprise, the sandal is the style of the season. With resort customers looking for that perfect shoe for their yacht look or vacation wardrobe, the sandal is as crucial as ever, with many designers offering takes on the casual shoe.

Narciso Rodriguez offered a suede, curved wedge version, while Thakoon opted for a flat suede-and-leather gladiator. The update here is the use of suede — typically a fall fabric — on a more summer-appropriate style.

More outlandish takes include Versace’s neon slides, which feature the Italian fashion house’s signature Medusa logo on the front, while Gucci’s gladiator style, with pearl and bow embellishments, was a more ornate take on a classic.

Both Giorgio Armani and Phillip Lim walked to the beat of their own drums. Armani offered pointed oxfords, while Lim went for suede thigh-high boots — an unexpected style for the season.
