In her NYC showroom, designer Monique Lhuillier presented her resort 2016 collection on Wednesday. The designer didn’t go for quantity this season, offering only seven styles, yet all executed with craftsmanship and subtle detailing.
Tortoise shell heels feature throughout the collection in varying heights, as do tightly woven fabrications, executed in both leather and suede – adding a certain textural element and dimension to what would otherwise have been single color sandals. The Ava in lemon yellow (pictured above) is a key example of this.
For those after some serious height, the Marlowe embellished sandal won’t disappoint. Presented in bronze metallic with ombre detailing, the standout shoe is likely to make appearances on the red carpet.
Speaking of her latest shoe offering, Lhuillier said, “Coming off the launch of the collection, I’ve come to appreciate that luxury can be more whimsical. For resort, there’s a playful sense of color and texture that still feels quite luxurious, but is quirky and fun… and that fun is happening on several new heels heights and constructions.
So much of what we do is about the art of fashion. The craft and techniques that continue to evolve in our workrooms translate to all of our categories, so there are looks that cross boundaries and defy some of the conventions of day versus evening. I break those rules myself every day, so it’s natural for me to blur those lines as I design.”
Prices start at $695 for flats and go up to $1895 for more detailed heels.
