Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli is getting serious about sporty style. For spring ’16, the founder of his eponymous fashion company tapped into the pervasive athleisure trend for his women’s footwear collection, which includes a diverse selection of looks, from evening sandals to flatforms and sneakers.

“There are brand-new shapes
and concepts that our customer has not seen before,” said Cucinelli, adding that the shoes feature sporty details such as Velcro straps
and Vibram outsoles, as well as raw, crisp fabrics.

To create his own unique take on the trend, Cucinelli looked to vintage images of 1920s tennis wardrobes as well as the landscapes of his native Umbria region.

“There is a deep soul in Italy, and I value the heritage it has to offer,” he said. “This love and passion for my home is seen throughout each touch point of the collection, season after season.”

He also maintains a focus on his customer and her desires. “I design with the intention of making women feel confident, chic and versatile.”
