Angelina Jolie certainly knows how to draw attention on a red carpet.
As the star celebrates her 40th birthday today, we’re looking back at some of her standout shoe moments, from her famous leg-pop at the Oscars to her shimmering old-Hollywood gown at the Critics Choice awards earlier this year. Jolie is one fashion star who has definitely transformed her look, but kept her signature style over the years.
While her shoe collection remains relatively unexciting, it doesn’t mean her footwear isn’t chic. The actress, director and activist often turns to simple, classic styles for the perfect touch of class to her typically unfussy looks. Nude pumps, peep toe heels and black stilettos are a signature for the actress.
Jolie’s style has grown up with her over the years, though she’s always remained simple and kept her accessories to a minimum. Today, you can just as easily spot her leaving home in a shimmering slip dress and heels, as you can find her in a simple skirt, blazer and nude pumps while tackling big issues at the United Nations.
Sure there have been a few fashion missteps along the way–who can forget the famous “Morticia Addams” red carpet moment at the 2000 Oscars when she won Best Supporting Actress for “Girl, Interrupted?” But the star also manages to surprise us every so often with a true va-va-voom red carpet look, which she almost always pairs with an equally classic peep toe pump.
