Music’s biggest stars gathered in New York City on Friday afternoon to celebrate Billboard’s 2015 Women In Music event. Girl power was in full force with appearances from Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Ciara, Alicia Keys and Lana Del Rey.
Gaga took home one of the biggest honors of the night with Woman of the Year. The “AHS: Hotel” actress arrived in a long white skirt and matching halter top paired with white and gold platforms.
Before receiving the award Gaga was introduced by her mother. She then performed her tribute song to victims of sexual assault, “Til It Happens to You,” which she co-wrote with songwriter Diane Warren for the documentary “The Hunting Ground.”
Del Rey made a rare red carpet appearance in a sleek all-black suit and a pair of classic black pumps. She was on hand to accept the Trailblazer award.
Tori Kelly — who recently received a Grammy nod for Best New Artist — took the stage at the award show to perform her latest single “Hollow.” She also received Billboard’s Breakthrough honor wearing silver metallic pumps for the occasion.
“This is a huge honor for me. I’m so inspired to be in a room with such powerful women. I’m super honored looking back on this year, it’s definitely been the craziest of my life,” she said on stage, according to Billboard.
Footwear News caught up with Kelly in November to talk shoes and her journey in the music industry. She said, “It’s been awesome not to rush into anything. I think that’s been the blessing in disguise. It’s been a rough and slow journey, but it’s been one of learning and growth, and I’ve been able to build this fan base from the ground up. It wasn’t an overnight thing, and it’s been awesome to soak it all in.”
Ciara made an statement on the red carpet in black ankle strap sandals and later presented Missy Elliot with an Billboard’s inaugural Innovator of the Year award.
Other honorees and guests included Demi Lovato, Hailee Steinfeld, Jussie Smollett, Fifth Harmony and Kelsea Ballerini.
