In this expanded role, Schmidt — formerly division president of contemporary fashion at Caleres, leading brands such as Diane Von Furstenberg’s footwear line — will continue to report to Diane Sullivan, CEO, president and chairman of the company.
“I’m delighted to have Jay lead both our contemporary fashion and healthy living brand portfolios going forward,” said Sullivan in a release. “His background and experience will help us further refine our brand portfolio business strategy and drive collaboration across our strong collection of brands.”
Prior to joining Caleres in 2008, Schmidt spent more than 25 years in various marketing and merchandising roles. He worked at Nine West Group for 10 years in several capacities and also held positions with Hudson’s Bay Co.’s Lord & Taylor, May Merchandising Corporation and Macy’s.
“I also want to thank John Mazurk for all of his work on behalf of Caleres over the past 14 years,” Sullivan said. “His insights and expertise will be missed, after he retires.”
Caleres’ family brands are Famous Footwear and Famous.com; its contemporary fashion brands include Sam Edelman, Franco Sarto, Vince, Via Spiga, Diane von Furstenberg, Fergie Footwear and Carlos Santana; and Naturalizer, Dr. Scholl’s, LifeStride, Bzees and Rykä comprise its healthy living brands portfolio.
