The opening marks the first standalone store in America for Aquazzura, which also has locations in London and Florence. The store features the brand’s signature black-and-white stripes that are a feature of all Aquazzura stores, accented with tropical touches, such as flamingo wallpaper and palm trees.
“Bal Harbour is the best shopping center in America. I’m so happy to have my first U.S. store here,” said designer Edgardo Osorio, who is also prepping to open his first location on New York’s Upper East Side.
Osorio, who will be honored as FN’s Designer of the Year tomorrow night, is due to open six branded locations over the next 12 months.
Plans are also under way for children’s shoes next resort season, as well as expansion into handbags and small leather goods.
While the Cartegena, Colombia-born designer and company co-founder is serious about business, he also relishes his hard-won success. “When I was in New York earlier this year, looking for store space on Madison Avenue, I pinched myself because I couldn’t believe it,” said Osorio. “I feel so lucky and blessed. I turned 30 in November, and this is all a dream becoming a reality.”
