The Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and Ars Sutoria School in Milan have announced the winner and finalists of the Joseph C. Moore Footwear Scholarship, named in honor of the former CEO and president of FFANY.

Hideki Sato, a graduating senior in accessories design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, was selected from among nine finalists from FIT, Parsons The New School for Design and the Rhode Island School of Design.

The scholarship, valued at more than $17,500 will provide Sato with advanced training in footwear design at a 13-week shoe pattern-making and prototyping course at Ars Sutoria from Aug. 26 through Nov. 20, 2015.

Blair Moore, from Parsons, was awarded second place, which provides an opportunity to attend a three-day intensive on footwear fundamentals at Ars Sutoria as well as the “Art of Traditional Shoemaking” in New York from July 13-15, valued at $1,800.

Emmanuel Nunez, also from Parsons, and Denise Lee, from the Rhode Island School of Design, were awarded third place in a tie and will receive the Ars Sutoria e-learning course, valued at $600.

All finalists will also receive the Ars Sutoria e-learning footwear design course, launched in 2014. This innovative method of training is being utilized by footwear companies to give their employees a structural base before moving on to a more hands-on experience.

The judging committee was comprised of industry veterans Joe Moore; Robert Mingione, president of Roberto Vasi Footwear; Lisa Cronin, VP of design and development at BCNY Intl./Synclaire Brands; Wendy Sani, senior director of international course development at Ars Sutoria; and Anna Bakst, president for shoes and accessories at Michael Kors.
