Nautical brand Sperry plans to make a bigger splash on the boating scene.

Sperry said it inked a new partnership with the 35th America’s Cup, the world’s most elite sailing competition. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Wolverine World Wide-owned division will become the official footwear partner of the tournament, as well as provide the shoes for Oracle Team USA.

“Partnering with the America’s Cup is our boldest adventure yet. Sperry is built for the sea, and in our 80 years we’ve continually provided tools for nautical adventure and created advanced performance technology for the world’s best watermen,” said Rick Blackshaw, president of Sperry, in a statement. “This game-changing partnership underscores our commitment to intrepid athletes all over the world and we’re thrilled to support this exhilarating and progressive sport.”

The Lexington, Mass.-based brand is expected to sell a limited number of shoes, apparel and accessories as part of the America’s Cup Collection.

Sperry said it planned to create a special shoe for Team USA athletes to use during training and racing.

The footwear will be designed to give sailors better agility and mobility while competing on catamarans.

America’s Cup, which has suffered in recent years from lack of competitors and waning public interest, takes place in June 2017.
