Mondo Guerra’s Good Taste

“Project Runway” alumnus Mondo Guerra has a full schedule these days. In addition to serving as a mentor on Tim Gunn’s Lifetime series, “Project Runway: Under the Gunn,” Guerra has put his design skills to good use with a collection for Crocs. The series of skimmers utilize patterns inspired by Guerra’s eyewear for retailer See and by his just-released apparel line. Guerra said a collaboration with Crocs was a natural complement to his own colorful and print-focused designs. “I knew [the brand’s] signature clog since [it launched],” he said. “To my surprise, it was exciting to see how the [line has] developed and extended its sense of fun and accessibility into more fashion-forward designs.” Although Crocs takes a modern approach to shoemaking, Guerra’s aesthetic often draws on the past. “I love thrift stores,” he said. “I look at men’s, women’s, kids’ [products] and even knick-knacks.” The Crocs collection launched exclusively at the brand’s New York flagship this spring and now is available on a wider basis for fall ’14, followed by additional styles for spring ’15.

Best city for people watching:
“New York. It’s a good place to put my cell phone in my pocket and see what’s going on day and night.”

Three things on my bucket list:
“Take two years and travel the world, have kids by the time I’m 45 and write a film score.”

TV show I never miss: “Lifetime’s ‘Kim of Queens.’ The former Miss Georgia takes young women and molds them into beauty pageant winners.”

Most memorable Halloween costume: “When I was a year old, my mom dressed me like Shirley Temple in a dress, wig and tap shoes.”

Alternative career choice:
“My art teachers were my heroes. I’d love to have a student call me when they’re 45 and say, ‘Hey, look what I’m doing.’”

Best hotel amenity: “I judge a good hotel by its hair dryer and shower head.”
