Winter doesn’t officially kick off until Dec. 21, but for many parts of the country, snowy conditions are already the norm. To beat Mother Nature at her own treacherous game, entrepreneur Veronica Barrow recently launched Mynxx, a line of winter ice grips for women.
While Barrow acknowledges ice grips are widely available in the marketplace, many are bulky versions aimed at men. She designed Mynxx with women in mind, creating feminine versions suitable for urban and suburban wear.
“We don’t always have control over the [weather],” Barrow said about unexpected conditions that can call for immediate protective footwear. And, added Barrow, the ice grips come in a matching bag, which is good for easy storage and for placing the wet items.
It was a series of falls on the ice that led Barrow, an architect, to consider a way she could safely navigate the winter streets of New York. Her patent-pending design easily slips on to a range of styles, from ballet flats to shoes on 1-inch heels.
A series of spikes on the bottoms gives wearers traction on icy streets. Made of TPR, they are available in four colors in sizes small, medium and large, fitting shoes from size 5 ½ to 11. Each pair retails for $38, with a set of replacement spikes at $14.
Barrow said she is currently working on expanding the line with companion items suitable for a wider range of shoe styles. The collection is available on Shopmynxx.com.
