Sole Desire, based in Santa Rosa, Calif., has added to its franchise with the recent opening of a 15th location in Menlo Park, Calif. The 1,800-sq.-ft. store will offer comfort footwear brands in addition to accessories. Over the last four years, the family-owned business has rolled out nine stores and turned two existing locations into superstores. Across its locations, the retailer carries more than 60 footwear labels in a range of categories.
Flip Flop Goes Global
Flip Flop Shops continues its international expansion this summer with the opening of its first franchise store in South Africa. The new location, managed by Africa-based retail management firm Barefoot, sits in the Woodlands Boulevard mall in the city of Pretoria and marks the first of 25 planned openings — including stores in Zimbabwe and Mauritius — on the continent over the next several years. Later this month, the flip-flop retailer will also open its first location in Kuwait. Since it first started franchising stores in 2008, the company has opened more than 100 shops globally.
New Store for Texas
Dicks Sporting Goods will open its third San Antonio store on July 25 with a weekend-long celebration. The new store will join other major tenants such as Macy’s and JCPenney at the South Park Mall in the southern part of the city. The athletic retailer operates more than 550 stores in the U.S.
