Shop Talk: DC’s New Addition… Nordstrom Hits Reno

Emporium DNA in D.C.
IK Retail Group plans to open a new store, Emporium DNA, in Washington, D.C., in mid-March. The new location replaces a United Colors of Benetton shop in the city’s thriving Dupont Circle neighborhood. The store, which also has an online retail presence, in addition to locations in Atlantic City and smaller boutiques in Las Vegas and Chicago, will feature a mix of luxury and contemporary labels for men and women. A few new brands will be added to the lineup for the D.C. customer, including Marc by Marc Jacobs and Mink Pink. Footwear shoppers will see an eclectic mix from Rebecca Minkoff, Sam Edelman, Alice & Olivia, B by Brian Atwood and more. “We wanted to go to a hip and trendy neighborhood in D.C.,” said an IK spokeswoman. “Since there are so many retailers already in Georgetown, we wanted to be in Dupont, which has that uniqueness.”

The Rack Heads to Reno
Nordstrom will open a new Nordstrom Rack in Reno, Nev., in spring 2015. The 31,000-sq.-ft. store will be located in the Redfield Promenade and joins Cost Plus World Market and Bed Bath & Beyond as an anchor. Kimco Realty Corp. owns the shopping center.  “This central retail location at Redfield Promenade is a good fit for us, and we look forward to offering customers access to fashion at great prices when we open our doors next year,” Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack, said in a statement.

Saks Hits Palm Beach
Saks Off 5th opened its newest location in Palm Beach, Fla., at the Palm Beach Outlets over the weekend. The 22,000-sq.-ft. store is a featured tenant in the new 500,000-sq.-ft. retail center by New England Development and Eastern Real Estate. “Florida has been an important market for us. This will be our 10th store in the state and first store in the Palm Beach area. We are very excited to bring a new store and grow the Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th family in the community,” Jonathan Greller, president of outlets at Saks parent Hudson’s Bay Co., said in a statement. Other stores at the new mall include Nike Factory Story, J.Crew Factory and Tommy Hilfiger.
